Medway Viaduct Photography

If you have ever driven past, or over, the Medway viaducts you will already know what impressive structures they are - the second viaduct won the Concrete Society’s Civil Engineering Category (2) award for, "outstanding merit in the use of concrete". The vast concrete expanses form some beautiful shapes - their austere simplicity out of context with the surrounding landscape and yet they somehow compliment the tranquility of the river. There are three viaducts, or bridges, the original motorway bridge on the east being opened in 1963. The western viaduct, contructed for the high speed rail line is noticeabbly sleeker than its siblings.

I shot these images early one morning - the final image of the set capturing the view from the viaducts up river.
